Test the Gold EA. Document the conditions.

A useful backtest is more than a profit figure. It records exactly what was tested, under which assumptions, and how the account behaved. Use this workflow when evaluating an XAUUSD trading robot such as Quintara Gold.

1. Start with the correct demo and guide

For Quintara Gold, open the official MQL5 listing and download the Market demo for MT5 Strategy Tester. Read the matching setup guide and preset notes before running a test. The free Market demo is for the tester; it does not provide an online-chart licence.

Use the required Gold symbol and M15 timeframe. Confirm the installed EA version and account requirements. Save the exact preset you used. A screenshot of a balance curve does not record enough information to reproduce a test.

2. Keep a record of the test conditions

MT5 Strategy Tester provides choices for modelling, dates, and execution assumptions. Where available, real-tick testing uses the broker’s recorded ticks. Check the data and the testing journal, and note what your chosen setup includes for trading costs.

Minimum information to keep with each EA test
RecordWhy it matters
EA version and presetA software or settings change can change the result.
Broker, symbol, and account typeContract specifications and supported position behaviour differ.
Dates and tick-modelling modeThe period and data model define what was simulated.
Starting balance, leverage, and sizingThese affect exposure and the ability to open positions.
Spread, commission, swap, and execution assumptionsA result must be interpreted with its costs and fill assumptions.
Saved report, journal, and trade historyYou need the underlying record to investigate behaviour.

Download the blank Gold EA test log (CSV). It includes fields for these conditions and for your observations; it contains no sample performance claims.

3. Inspect losses and overlapping positions

Review the equity curve as well as the balance curve. Read the individual trades around drawdowns and losing sequences. Ask whether one period or a few unusually large wins dominate the result.

With Quintara, inspect times when multiple engines are active. A sizing percentage for one entry does not describe all open account risk. Compare the positions open together, their sizes, and how their exits interact. Broker minimum lots can also make small-account sizing behave differently from a simple percentage calculation.

Write down observations instead of assigning a universal “safe” drawdown or win-rate threshold. Suitability depends on the full setup, and a high win rate can coexist with large occasional losses.

4. Keep a period aside for validation

If you change settings after seeing a result, that period has influenced your selection. Keep a separate chronological period that was not used to choose the settings. Record when each change was made so you can distinguish a fresh check from another round of tuning.

Repeat the evaluation across different market periods and plausible cost assumptions. Look for conclusions that survive those changes. Do not choose only the dates that make the robot look strongest, and keep the unsuccessful runs in your records.

5. Treat live monitoring as a separate source

The Quintara live monitoring page is useful for inspecting dated account activity. Its early history is not a long-term reliability record. Check its age, trade count, drawdowns, and settings together, and distinguish trading results from changes in account funding.

Do not merge a historical test and a live account into one implied track record. Label each source, keep its dates, and state its broker and settings where known. Results from another account may not match your own.

6. Keep the conclusion as specific as the evidence

Finish with what you tested, what you observed, and what remains uncertain. For example, “This preset was tested on this broker over these dates” is a narrower and more useful statement than “This robot always works.”

If something is unclear, ask Mark a product question before purchasing. Current licence terms and the demo are available on the official Quintara listing. Testing supports a more informed evaluation; it cannot guarantee future returns.
